چکیده

We describe the design and implementation of a videobased augmented reality system capable of overlaying threedimensional graphical objects on live video of dynamic environments. The key feature of the system is that it is completely uncalibrated: it does not use any metric information about the calibration parameters of the camera or the 3D locations and dimensions of the environment’s objects. The only requirement is the ability to track across frames at least four feature points that are specified by the user at system initialization time and whose world coordinates are unknown. Our approach is based on the following observation: Given a set of four or more non-coplanar 3D points, the projection of all points in the set can be computed as a linear combination of the projections of just four of the points. We exploit this observation by (1) tracking lines and fiducial points at frame rate, and (2) representing virtual objects in a non-Euclidean, affine frame of reference that allows their projection to be computed as a linear combination of the projection of the fiducial points.

Invariant-Based Augmented Reality on Mobile Phones

A calibration-free augmented reality based on affine invariant is firstly formulated by tensor method. This approach does not use the calibration parameters of the camera and the 3D locations of the environment’s object, and can realize the augmentation of virtual objects. Meanwhile, a new approach to resolving occlusion problem in augmented reality is presented. Based on an armoptimized implem...

A Comparison of Viewing Geometries for Augmented Reality

Recently modern non-Euclidean structure and motion estimation methods have been incorporated into augmented reality scene tracking and virtual object registration. We present a study of how the choice of projective, affine or Euclidean scene viewing geometry and similarity, affine or homography based object registration affects how accurately a virtual object can be overlaid in scene video from...

Calibration-Free Augmented Reality

Camera calibration and the acquisition of Euclidean 3D measurements have so far been considered necessary requirements for overlaying three-dimensional graphical objects with live video. In this article we describe a new approach to video-based augmented reality that avoids both requirements: it does not use any metric information about the calibration parameters of the camera or the 3D locatio...

Comprehensive Tracker Based Display Calibration for Holographic Optical See-Through Head-Mounted Display

A holographic display system is able to offer an immersive 3D experience with a controllable focus cue that matches the depth information of virtual content. Proper calibration of an OST-HMD must take into account the specific features of that HMD. Existing calibration methods, however, cannot fully capture the optical characteristics of holographic display systems. With the aid of tracking sys...
